They're quietly corrosive. Marked by confusion, shifting expectations, withheld information, and pressure to stay positive while your nervous system stays on high alert.
Over time, this erosion takes a real toll — on your mental health, your confidence, your sense of who you are at work. And yet most people get stuck at the same wall: they sense harm, but they don't have the language, structure, or evidence to name it. So they're told to cope better. Be more resilient. Assume good intent. While the harm continues.
This isn't rare. In a 2025 Monster poll, over 80% of employees reported that their jobs existed in toxic work environments. It isn't a few bad actors. It's a system — and millions of capable, conscientious people are trying to survive inside it every day.
Unmanaged exists to interrupt that slow erosion. Before you lose yourself. Before recovery takes longer than it had to.
Because recovery takes longer when no one helps you stay grounded in the middle.
Most support for people in difficult workplaces focuses on helping you feel better about a situation that isn't okay. Unmanaged is different. It's built around a framework developed from 26 years of HR leadership — and from my own firsthand experience of navigating retaliation inside the systems I was hired to protect.
The Unmanaged Framework is built on 10 pillars — a structured, sequenced approach to protecting yourself, reclaiming your footing, and making informed choices while you're still inside the situation.

I'm Elizabeth Arnott — a Workplace Strategist and former senior HR leader with more than 26 years of experience in mission-critical, high-conflict workplaces. I've worked across manufacturing, healthcare, higher education, government, and nonprofit organizations — environments where the work matters deeply, the pressure is relentless, and the human cost is too often invisible.
I hold a BA in English from Portland State University and a Master's in Jurisprudence in Labor and Employment Law from Tulane University. Precision with language. Rigor with law. That combination shapes everything I do.
I spent 26 years building trust with employees that most people assume HR will never earn. I listened. I showed up. I brought a trauma-informed, psychologically safe lens to decisions and policy — even when it made things harder.
But here's what else is true.
I went through the retaliation. The disbelief. The performance improvement plan used as a weapon. I sat across from organizational leadership and was pushed aside to protect a toxic leader. I know what it feels like to have your judgment questioned, your reality distorted, and your options feel completely invisible.
When I came out the other side, I could see clearly what had happened — and what it meant. With 80% of people in the US reporting toxic work environments, what I'd experienced wasn't unusual. It was common. It was quiet. And no one was talking about it the way it needed to be talked about.
I can help you see your options clearly — and use them strategically. Not just after you've burned out or exited. Right now, while you're still in it.

Whether you're just starting to make sense of what's happening, or you're ready to work through it with direct support — there's a path for you here.
